The International Language

Hi, folks! Nothing much to report for this week. I took yesterday off and worked all night on a painting, you can view it at www.patriciapellor.blogspot.com if you'd like.

I had a lot of fun passing out cards and candy the past few nights at the Hard Rock; it's a delight to discuss art with you guys. I did ask one boy if he'd like some candy but instead of coming forward, he backed off and got a panicked look on his face.. he was either shy or foreign I guessed. I reached into my bag and pulled out a piece of candy and held it up for him to see, he very quickly changed direction and ran forward to take the candy, and the crowd around me broke out in laughter. His mother told me the boy only speaks French! I guess candy is the international language!

Catie

This little lady was a real entertainer and cute to boot! While she waited for her name, she told me lots of amusing stories about her home life. At one point I asked her "So you're pretty tough?" and she replied "I have four brothers, if I weren't tough, I'd be dead." If I ever hear of a stand up comic named Catie, I'll know this adorable jokester made it big time.

Yuh Urr

Today, I had a nice young man approach me and ask for me to write something other than a name. He told me he was in year six in school (Sixth grade) and his teacher wanted a souvenir that said Year 6 on it. However, in order to lower the price, I was to draw an abbreviation for "year six". What he said to me, literally, was "Can you write it as 'yuh urr six'?" I said "excuse me?" We went back and forth for a bit, and he thought I was confused on the number six. Finally, I figured out that "Yuh Urr" is this Brit's way of saying "Y slash R". Wow.

Orange County Convention Center

Not too long ago, I was working a gig at the Orlando Convention Center. The theme was tropical and the convention was a private plane sales event. A couple of celebrities were there. It was a pretty fancy event, catered with food and drinks for the artist (don't mind if I do, lol).

Someone asked if I do names for boys. Of course! The theme is still tropical, but the pink characters are replaced with sharks and pirate ships and more fish. Unless the boy asks for pink, which lately, has been a trend, I leave it out. Here's a sample of what a boy's name looks like, and yes the boy's name actually was "Rice". I get a lot of unusual names because customers have difficulty finding them premade.

Orlando World Center Marriott gig

I just finished up a gig at the Orlando World Center Marriott, it was a blast! I drew for a company that manufactures diabetic machines for children. I learned a lot about the products that are available out there now.. things that didn't exist four years ago! It was really hectic and an all-day gig which meant that I spent a lot of time furiously drawing while standing on my feet. Phew! Customers seemed to really enjoy the artwork. I hope that means they'll have me back next year.

The OWC Marriott is really a gorgeous place. It's right across the street from the Nickelodeon Hotel, where I used to draw regularly (now I work at the Hard Rock). OWC Marriott is absolutely huge! If there weren't maps all over the place I could easily have gotten lost.

Tropical Name Art

Here is the name Allison, painted for a young girl on location at the Hard Rock Hotel where I work day to day. The "A" is made of two kissing flamingos, and a sunset. See if you can pick out the other characters in the letters!

Tropical Name Art is beautiful, especially when viewed in natural light. The exceptional pigments in the high quality paint are more easily visible when seen in sunlight or sunlight-mimicking indoor lighting.
